Preamble
We, the members of the Boston Latin Academy Classics Club, in order to establish a basis of order, to better unite the members of this organization, and to promote friendship and understanding among the members, do hereby adopt the following constitution and agree to abide by its rules.

Article I: Name and Purpose
Section I: The name of this organization shall be the Boston Latin Academy Classics Club (BLACC).

Section II: Purpose

  1. The purpose of this organization shall be to promote a more thorough knowledge of the classical history, life and literature, to impart a better understanding of the practical and cultural values of the classics, and to promote the interest of other students in classical languages, Latin and Greek.

Section III: Emblem

  1. The emblem shall be a torch encircled with two dragons. The colors shall be black and gold.

Article II: Membership
Section I: The organization’s membership shall be of individuals (students) at Boston Latin Academy who take a Latin or Greek course or have completed the requirement of Latin courses.
 

  1. Upon payment of BLACC dues, a student will become a member of the BLACC along with the Massachusetts Classical League and the National Junior Classical League.

Article III: Executive Board
Section I: Officers
A. Officers will be elected at annual BLACC elections. The term will begin immediately and end at the next elections.

Section III: Qualifications of office

  1. To qualify as an officer, the student must be a member of this organization and be taking a Latin or Greek course.

Article IV: Duties:
Section I: Expectations

  1. All Executive Board members are expected to attend all Executive Board meetings, the State Convention and the majority of BLACC field trips and events.

Section II: Duties of BLACC officers

  1. Duties of the President(s)
  1. Shall actively lead the BLACC, working cooperatively with the advisor, staying aware of the activities of the other BLACC officers, and offering assistance where appropriate.

2.    Shall preside over all meetings of the Executive Board and State Convention Fellowship meetings.
      3.    Shall coordinate BLACC Scrimmages.

  1. Duties of the 1st Vice President(s)
  1. Shall preside over all meetings of the Executive Board and State Convention Fellowship meetings in absence of the President.
  2. Shall be responsible for planning and coordinating Tea with the Professor.
  3. Shall be responsible for organizing publicity and submitting publicity to the state.
  1. Duties of the 2nd Vice President(s)
  1. Shall be responsible for managing and maintaining bulletin boards.
  2. Shall be responsible for coordinating spirit contests at State Convention.
  1. Duties of the Secretary(s)
  1. Shall record minutes of the Executive Board meetings and submit a copy to the Web Master within forty-eight (48) hours after the meeting.
  1. Duties of the Treasurer (s)
  1. Shall be responsible for managing the finances for all fundraisers.
  2. Shall manage all spread sheets pertaining to BLACC’s financial status.
  1. Duties of the Historian(s)
  1. Shall be responsible for creating a School Scrapbook and entering it in the School Scrapbook Contest at the State and National Convention.
  2. Shall encourage members to actively contribute materials for the scrapbook.
  3. Shall be responsible for sending the School Scrapbook materials to the State Historian.
  1. Duties of the  Editor(s)
  1. Shall be responsible for producing and distributing monthly issues of the Forum BLArum every month.
  2. Shall be responsible for collecting articles for the Forum BLArum.
  3. Shall be responsible for submitting publications to State and National Publication Contests.
  1. Duties of the Web Master(s)
  1. Shall be responsible for maintaining the website of the BLACC.
  1. Duties of the Parliamentarian(s)
  1. Shall be responsible for becoming familiar with the BLACC Constitution.
  2. Shall be responsible for planning and coordinating the Community Outreach Contest, and submitting all materials to the State Contest.
  3. Shall prepare an official ballot for the BLACC elections and shall preside over elections.
  4. Shall provide a revised copy of the Constitution when necessary.
  1. Duties of the Engineer
  1. Shall be responsible for building and /or maintaining a catapult for the Catapult Contest.
  2. Shall be responsible for building and/or maintaining a chariot for State Convention.

Section III: Duties of the Advisors/ Sponsors

  1. Shall support and advise the BLACC officers in the execution of their duties as stated in this constitution.
  2. Shall attend all Executive Board meetings, State Conventions.
  3. Are strongly encouraged to attend National Convention.

Section IV: Removal from the Board

  1. If any officer is in any way derelict in his duties, the Executive Board shall first work with the officer in an effort to correct the situation. If, however, these efforts are not successful, removal proceedings will begin.
  2. Any officer may be removed from office as the Advisor/Sponsors and Executive Board deems fit.
  3. The vacancy shall be filled by an appointed officer and it will take effect immediately.

Article V: Amendments and By-Laws
Section I: Constitutional Amendments

  1. Proposed Amendments must be submitted in writing during Executive Board Meetings.
  2. If accepted by a majority of the BLACC members, proposed amendments shall be ratified.
  3. A ratified constitution shall take effect in September of that year.

Section II: By- Laws

  1. Proposed by-laws must be submitted in writing at Executive Board meetings.
  2. If accepted by a majority of the BLACC members, proposed by-laws shall be ratified.
  3. Ratified by-laws shall take effect in September of that year. 

Section III: Electors

    1. 10% of members in each grade shall vote on amendments.
    2. Electors cannot be running officers.
