2:00p.m.-Icebreaker ends
2:01p.m. Question and answer period between former and current officers begin.
Parliamentarian:-former officers--Marjorie (M) and Khoi (K)
current officer-Eda (E)
M: “Things don’t always go as planned. Make sure you plan at least a month and a half ahead.
E: “what places do you suggest?”
M: “Community buildings are good, but talk to your friends, use all your resources.”
K: “Go to different schools, even if you don’t really know it. But try to choose schools that are close to ours.”
2:05p.m.
Secretary:-former officers-Monika (Mon) and Ashley (was not present)
current officer- Christina(C)
Mon: “Well, when you write down minutes make sure that you right them down but make sure that you make them your own.”
C: “OK”
Bulletin Boarder:-former officers- Daina (D) and Anicka (A)
current officer-Y’vesha (Y’v)
A: “The most difficult part is getting the photos for the bulletin board.”
D: “Yea, this job is very time consuming.”
Y’v: “OK, thanks.”
Webmaster:-former officer-Eda
Eda: “Basically, if you need help ask me through e-mail or if you see me. The hard part about it is getting the photos.”
Ms. Fillion suggests that the whole board should be responsible for buying a USB for the club. Then we would be able to keep all of the photos on it and all officers would have easier access to photos.
Editor: former officer: Michael (Mike) tells current editors Liza and Peter that he uses Micrsoft word. Then, Ms. Fillion suggests that Liza and Peter work with Mike on the next issue of the Forum BLArum.
2:09p.m.
Treasurer: former officers: Katherine (Kat), Peter, and Bernice.
current officers: Amy and Danny
Kat: “To be the treasurer you need a calculator, and you’re gonna have to stay for long hours. But if you work with a friend it will not seem as long. Oh, and an mp3 player or an ipod is useful. Finally make sure you do not loose anything.”
Reporter: former co-officer, Liza, warns the current reporters, that they should be attending majority of the events because if they don’t they are not able to do their job efficiently.
Historian: former officer Tien encourages current historian Jackie to let her creativity flow and tells her that the scrapbook is hers. She also warns to keep in contact with the presidents through e-mail. A big thing for her was time management, as she tells Jackie to ensure she doesn’t procrastinate.
2:11p.m.
2 nd VP: Former officer Nick warns current 2 nd VPs Tim and Katherine to not procrastinate, have a group to help you, and to stay open to other people’s ideas.
1 st VP: Former officer Dan Thuy shares with current 1 st VP, Tien her experiences with planning Tea with the Professor. She tells Tien that having the aid of another person can be helpful, but if she wanted to know everything and control everything herself, it would be best to do things herself.
2:13p.m. The question and answer period between former and current officers end.
Current co-president, Jared, then speaks a few words.
“As officers, we have to act together on things and help each other. Keep in contact with the other officers of the club and get used to being in Ms. Fillion’s room. If you are here after school and don’t have anything to do, stop by and see if Ms. Fillion or any other officers need help. We are the leaders of the club, we are the ones who ran for office which shows something about us. Just do your job and be active in the club.”
2:14p.m.
Peter says a couple of words:
“As officers we are obliged to help each other out. So, write something down because we need articles and feedback. If we don’t have this feedback then people will not want to go to events and then we loose members and then we loose money and there goes the club.”
Jared: “Yeah guys, you should be attending majority of the events anyways or at least as many as you can.”
2:15p.m.
Tien: “If your job is to write, or whatever, do not have another officer do it for you. Do it yourself, don’t be lazy, be honest and do your job.”
2:17p.m.
Dan Thuy announces a new method of keeping the attendance sheet at every meeting.
The attendance sheet will be passed around at every meeting and held onto to ensure that officers are attending the meetings. Basically officers are allowed 3 times to miss a meeting “unexcused”. But officers shouldn’t be missing too many meetings because how can you do your job if you don’t know what’s going on?
2:19p.m.
Dan Thuy shares the idea of making the meetings on Fridays.
Dan Thuy opens the floor up to anyone who has objections to meetings on Fridays.
Abasiama objects to meetings on Fridays because it would interfere with those who have sports.
Those who would possibly have sports on Fridays that can interfere with the meetings were asked to raise their hands. After short discussion, it was determined that meetings on Friday would be fine because sports are only for a period of time and there will be minutes distributed to officers who missed the meeting.
2:20 Discussion on meeting days ends.
2:20p.m. Dan Thuy introduces the discussion of Communication.
Dan Thuy, “There should be communication between officers.Get in the habit of checking your e-mail. I know I check my e-mail at least three times a day and Jared checks his at least once a day. So if we call you and e-mail you, and get no answer, there is a problem. There’s a problem because we will not call you once or e-mail you once, so check your e-mail!”
2:22p.m.
Ms. Fillion tells everyone that they should have a professional e-mail. She also tells everyone to not use yahoo or hotmail. She recommends g-mail because it can be accessed in school. She also warns everybody about aol because of her personal experiences e-mailing a person who has an aol e-mail address.
Dan Thuy, “I know that the BLACC is not known for their punctuality, but that is something that we are going to work hard on this year. We have to be on point. So we will be making calendars for the officer of their due dates so we can be on time.”
Jared takes a minute to suggest certain behavior at the meetings. He encourages participation in the meeting, giving new ideas and helping out. “This is about community and communication.”
2:23p.m.
Michael, “Everybody should get very familiar with the ‘sweat shop’.
2:24p.m. Scooper Bowl get together is announced.
This get together would be between officers and members of the club.
2:25p.m. Elijah takes the time to explain what the Scooper Bowl is.
“The Scooper Bowl is when you go to City Hall and pay $4 for the spoon. Once you get the spoon, you can eat an unlimited supply of ice cream. I think we should wear our BLACC shirts.”
2:26p.m. A brief discussion of the supply of BLACC shirts is held.
2:27p.m. Ms. Fillion brings up the jewelry party.
The purpose of the Jewelry party is to make jewelry to sell at nationals to raise money for the MassJCL and essentially BLACC.
Those who would be interested in going to a jewelry party are asked to raise their hands to put their names on a sign up sheet.
2:29 Dan Thuy closes the conversation about the Jewelry Party and after a brief silence, the meeting is adjourned.
